With our Grid Computing architecture, your site will always be available, scalable and secure. It consists of three layers designed to adjust for new customers, changes in demand and component failures.
Structure
The bottom layer is the physical hardware. The middle layer is the ecommerce software foundation. The top layer contains the unique ecommerce sites. Between each of these layers are virtualization enablers that allow for the combination of resources to be dynamically adjusted. We leverage this high availability and high performance Grid Computing framework to dynamically allocate additional capacity to meet demand of all our customers.
Delivery
We deliver our Grid Computing architecture through a PoD (Point of Delivery) – a group of resources (network, servers, storage) managed as part of our eCommerce Platform. The combined application, network, servers, and storage in a PoD represent a single image, while customer sites represent the multiple instances, each individually isolated.
Internet traffic destined for your site is routed through high-capacity redundant circuits to the Demandware Grid. All traffic is load-balanced and decrypted prior to the creation of a session at the Web tier. The Web tier communicates via logically isolated network infrastructure to the application-server tier, which in turn executes transactions against the database tier. The Demandware eCommerce Platform is only accessible through ports 80 and 443 for HTTP and HTTPS requests respectively, thereby limiting exposure and maximizing security.

Each group of computing resources forms a logical cluster dedicated to a single customer. These clusters are logically isolated from all other customer environments through multiple levels of security for network, processor, database and storage sub-systems.
